Why do We Bite Our Nails?
Nail biting can seem frustrating as the underlying reasons can be varied. However common knowledge is that it is something psychological taking place in the subconscious.
"Normal" nail biting start as a result of trying to cope with anxiety, stress levels, boredom or hunger, but on the other end of the spectrum, nail biting is also a sign of other mental or emotional disorders, like obsessive compulsion. In this state people are not even aware that they are biting their nails - not even when they have reached the flesh! Of course these are the most severe cases of nail biting. Other people bite their nails while sleeping as an unconscious habit.
Nail Biting Treatments

Subliminal suggestions and hypnosis are used with great success in the treatment of nail biting. You can find tapes or even mp3 downloads that will help you in your battle against nail biting. On the other hand is more powerful to go to ana ctual certified hypnotherapist that will be sure you get rid of nail biting for good.
Nail Polish
Nail polish makes the nail harder to bite and leaves a sour flavor. This method is used to un-learn the behavior. Is a slow process and not suitable for men (who ususally don't use naill polish)
Creams
A better option for men, nail biting creams leave a bitter taste that repel you from biting the nails while at the same time nurture the surrounding skin with vitamins and aloe. The downside is that you have to use this daily until the habit is controlled.
Your will
The cheapest but toughest method. If you haven't tried this, you'll find that it is very hard to unlearn a behavior, even harder than learning it!
